Patau syndrome occurs when the baby has an extra copy of chromosome 13, this disorder is also known with the name of trisomia.

Abnormalities at the chromosomal level are problems that exist in the genetic structure of chromosomes babies. Most often involve extra copy of a particular chromosome or it may result from what some are broken or they have lost their natural order.

* The head will be very small.

* Abnormalities in the eye

* The lip or palate lip (approximately 60% suffer)

* Alterations in the shape and size of ears

* Extra fingers and hands (or) in the feet

* Heart problems (80% of cases)

The complications suffered by infants born with this anomaly are numerous, may have mental problems, a large amount of defects, and they may also suffer from deafness, blindness or they are caused by an incomplete brain development .
